The basketball program is run by a group of dedicated parents, and governed by the NLYAA. Any interested parent is encouraged to attend the NLYAA meetings. Meetings are usually scheduled for the first Monday of every month at 7:30PM in the NL Middle School Library.  We hope to see you there!

          Volunteers Needed

·         We are looking for parents or volunteers to help, even if it is only for an hour.  Every little bit helps keep the program running.

·         We are looking for coaches for this basketball season.  If interested, please contact the director for more information.

Signup Fees

NLYAA Fee is $15 per player per sport. Lifetime Membership is no longer available however, existing Lifetime Members will be honored.   

Basketball Sports Fee & Sign Up Options:

-- IN HOUSE: Approximately $50 per player for the In-House League: Generally boys Grades 1 - 6 who are interested in learning basic skills of basketball including dribbling and shooting. In-House Players will NOT play league games.  In-House players will practice on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6-7: 30 pm at Peters Elementary. These practices are focused on the fundamentals of the game. 

-- 3rd & 4th Grade Travel:  - Approximately $60 per player PLUS the NLYAA Fee.  Generally boys Grades 3 - 4 who are interested in learning basic skills.  Boys will play competitive, league games.  3/4 Grade players will practice regularly and play league games.  
* HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD IS READY FOR COMPETITIVE BASKETBALL?  -- Can the player consistently shoot (not throw) a basketball from the free throw line and hit a rim that is 10 feet?  -- If the player is able to do "make a free throw," the player is probably ready for competitive games.  

-- 5th & 6th Travel: Approximately $60 per player PLUS the NLYAA Fee.  Generally boys Grades 4 - 6 who are interested in learning basic skills.  Boys will play competitive league games.  5/6 Grade players will practice regularly and play league games.  

*PLEASE NOTE: All NLYAA Players use a 28.5 size ball and play on 10-foot rims.   

Practices begin the first week in November.  Practices for the 3/4 and 5/6 Travel Teams CAN be held any weeknight (M - F) from 7:00pm - 8:30pm.  Practices for the In-House Team is held every Mon. and Wed. night from 6-7:30 at Peters Elem. 
Games for the 3/4 and 5/6 Travel Teams begin the first week in December.  Games for 3/4 and 5/6 Travel CAN be any weeknight (M - F) or any weekend (Sat & Sun).  
Games for the In-House Team will be held during the regularly scheduled practice night (Mon and Wed) at Peters.  

Refunds:  Refunds will not be given after November 10th.

Fundraising Requirements: Optional 

* Any player from grades 4, 5 and 6 are allowed to participate in the In-House program if they are not interested in trying out for the Travel Team.

* TRAVEL TEAMS:  Will not exceed 12 players per team.

Tryouts will be necessary if volunteers are unwilling to coach Travel League Teams.  

Once selected, the teams will be notified of their practice schedules.
